Morning Pickup & Scenic Drive to Lumajang
Your journey begins with hotel pickup from Malang or Surabaya, followed by a comfortable drive through East Java’s countryside toward Lumajang. Along the way, enjoy views of rice fields, rural villages, and volcanic landscapes as your driver shares local insights.
Arrival at Tumpak Sewu & Panorama Viewpoint
Upon arrival, start your exploration at the panoramic viewpoint overlooking Tumpak Sewu’s iconic semi-circular waterfall formation. Take time to capture photos of this dramatic natural amphitheater, often referred to as the “Niagara of Indonesia.”
Guided Descent to the Waterfall Base
Continue your adventure by descending jungle trails and stone stairways with a local guide. At the base of Tumpak Sewu, feel the refreshing mist while standing beneath towering waterfalls surrounded by lush rainforest cliffs. You’ll also have time to explore nearby spots such as Goa Tetes (depending on conditions).

Enjoy free time for lunch at a local restaurant near the waterfall area before continuing your journey.
Afternoon Drive to Mount Bromo Area
After exploring Tumpak Sewu, travel onward toward Cemara Lawang village near Mount Bromo. The scenic drive offers changing landscapes from tropical valleys to cooler mountain terrain.
Hotel Check-in & Evening at Leisure
Arrive at your Bromo-area hotel and check in. Spend the evening relaxing, enjoying the crisp mountain air, and preparing for the early morning sunrise experience. Accommodation: Bromo area (Cafe Lava or similar)
Midnight Jeep Transfer to Sunrise Viewpoint
In the early hours of the morning, transfer to a 4WD jeep and begin your off-road journey across Bromo’s volcanic plains toward the sunrise viewpoint.
Sunrise Experience Over Tengger Caldera
Witness sunrise illuminating Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, and Mount Semeru in the distance. Enjoy a warm coffee break while taking in panoramic views of the vast Tengger caldera.
Sea of Sand & Bromo Crater Hike
Descend into the Sea of Sand and drive toward Mount Bromo crater. Continue on foot to hike up the crater rim, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the active volcano and surrounding landscapes.
Breakfast & Overland Journey to Bondowoso
After breakfast, return to your hotel area and continue your journey eastward toward Bondowoso by private vehicle, passing plantations, mountain roads, and small towns along the way.
Arrival in Bondowoso & Hotel Check-in
Arrive in Bondowoso in the afternoon and check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxation, preparing for the Mount Ijen hike the following morning. Accommodation: Bondowoso (Ijen View Hotel or similar)
Early Morning Transfer to Mount Ijen
Depart early from Bondowoso and drive to Paltuding, the starting point of your Mount Ijen trek. Receive a short safety briefing from your local guide and prepare your equipment.
Guided Hike to Ijen Crater Lake
Begin a guided hike of approximately 3 kilometers to the crater rim. Along the trail, observe traditional sulfur miners carrying heavy loads and learn about their daily routines. Upon reaching the top, admire the stunning turquoise crater lake surrounded by dramatic volcanic walls. Gas mask and health letter are provided for your comfort and safety.
Descent & Breakfast
After spending time at the crater, hike back down to the base and enjoy breakfast before continuing your journey.
Transfer to Ketapang Harbor
Travel by private vehicle to Ketapang Harbor, where you can take the ferry if you want to continue your journey to Bali. The tour officially ends upon arrival at Ketapang, marking the completion of your East Java volcano adventure.
